As we start another year and coming into our 7th year of business, we have now created over 800 wedding cakes. Which we can offically call ourselves a wedding cake specialist.

I love weddings and believe me, you wouldn’t own a wedding business if you didn’t. There is just something about producing something special and unique for each couple.

Melbourne and Australia is coming into a new era in 2018, with same sex marriage being legalised, weather changes, new venues, new locations so many exciting things to come.

Every year we do a blog post about the top wedding cake designs, everyone is unique and different. I do see some continued designs from previous years and some great new ideas coming though as well.

New ingredients and decorations.

I love creating dessert in our store, and the use of freeze dried fruits, nuts, figs and edible flowers are starting to make there way onto wedding cakes, not just into cakes. Blackberries and cranberries also are being chosen instead of the more common berries such as raspberry and strawberries, mainly to give another texture and colour to the finished designed. But be aware, although these items look lovely on a cake. Edible flowers, fruits and berries are not available all year round and can be a big struggle to get out of season.

New Venues

Popping up around town and country are some great new venue options. With new venues come new themes and designs to work with. In the city lots of roof top out door bars and wall to wall glass windows to see views across the city skyline or the magical bay.

Outdoor gardens with beautiful clear roof marquees, rustic renovated barns, and festoon lit decking are the setting of many country weddings.

This gives us beautiful cakes to design. Marble fondant cakes with amazing coloured flowers, Tiers of layered flavoured sponge cakes with luscious fruity filling, metallic and chocolate drizzles ozzing over the top of a master piece, even towers of sugary donuts and cheese stacks to satisfy the sweet and savoury guest.
