When I dreamed of opening my own Cake shop when I was five years old, I wanted to sell all my old time favorites.
Those desserts and cakes that remind me of going up the mountain to visit my Grandma, or the smell of the kitchen in Swan Hill at Nanna’s house at Christmas time. Everyone has a favorite memory of there family, and mine mostly involve food.
Not all my memories of cakes revolve around my grandparents, most involve family holidays to country towns, visiting the little bakeries, ice creameries and cheese factories. The Penguin Meringues that we got from the Phillip Island Bakery, ice cream from our stops at the Bega Cheese factory and Tilba Tilba. And I Will never forget my first Trip into Beechworth Bakery with my Dad while on a Business sports trip when I was about 9, the look, the feel everything about the shop I wanted to have and wanted to bake.
When you walk into my shop you can feel the love and passion I have for my up bringing, the tea cups and vintage plates are from Great grandpa and Grandma, looking at them every day reminds me how I admired them in the cabinet when I was little (only used for special occasions). The doilies spread on the front tables are from Great grandma and mum all hand made with love. Even when I bake the scones they remind me of Hot Cheese scones that Grandma made on a cold Winters day when we went to see her in Kinglake.
My Lemon meringue pie still reminds me of my Food tech teacher from year 7, I practiced and practiced it over and over to get it perfect, just so I could be the best in the class.
These are the memories that form our menus, mixing old with new, Traditional with flare, and you will find something different every time you visit us. Every Single dessert, Cake, scone is made by me in house, with recipes from my childhood to recipes that I invent over my 19 years of training.
